Gratitude

The end of the year is often a time of reflection and expressing thanks.  2019 was a remarkable year in Seattle for accessory dwelling units.  These dwellings are becoming more and more popular across the country.  California and Oregon and Minneapolis passed legislation to make design and construction of these and other types of housing easier.  In Seattle, after a protracted process, we passed some of the most progressive ADU land use code to regulate this housing type.  There is more to do in the Seattle area…we are behind in creating homes and it shows.

To help pass this code in Seattle, Sheri worked among a committed group of volunteers who were willing to show up at City Council hearings, testify, write emails and make phone calls.  We blogged, facebooked, tweeted and instagrammed information so more people could learn about ADUs.  We are so grateful that so many people jumped in and contributed their energy and time to this endeavor.  This is along with the committed city employees and council members who followed through during multiple years of appeals and hearings.  We appreciate their tireless commitment to this process.

This past June, AIA Seattle hosted its first ever ADU Tour.  Thank you to everyone involved!  We look forward to the 2020 ADU Tour.

At live-work-play, along with this advocacy work and teaching classes about how to create (D)ADUs. we kept moving forward with intuitive and thoughtful design for our clients.  Several projects completed construction in 2019, including an aging in place DADU.  We thank our clients for their thoughtful collaboration with us!  We thank the contractors for carefully bringing the designs to life!!

Many consultants and business-to-business service providers help us help our clients throughout the year.  We thank them for their assistance!!!

Right now, we are working on the design of a highly energy efficient new home with an attached ADU that will serve multiple generations of a family — we look forward to seeing that start construction in summer of 2020, so that this family can enjoy their forever home.

Thank you for all of your support this past year and we are eager to connect with you in 2020.
